Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Monday in Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Richland, for Shawn Michael Hastings, 22, Berryton. He died Tuesday Aug. 14, of injuries suffered in a fall from a bridge in Kansas City, Mo., into the Missouri River.
Mr Hastings was a journeyman iron worker. He erected microwave towers for National Steel and other companies throughout the United States.
He was born Jan. 25, 1962, at Topeka, the son of James Franklin Hastings Jr., and Mary Jo Heston Hastings. He was graduated from Shawnee Heights High School in 1980 where he lettered in football and wrestling.
Mr. Hastings was a member of Iron Workers Union, Local No. 10, Kansas City Mo., and ABATE of Kansas.
Survivors include his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Jim Hastings Jr., Berryton; two sisters, Mrs. Stephani A. Hastings Gifford, Topeka, and Mrs. Geri C. Hastings Cummings, Carbondale; a brother, Shane M. Hastings, Berryton; and grandparents, Alys L. DeDon, Overbrook, and Carl O. and Margaret Heston, Topeka.
The casket will remain closed. Mr. Hastings will lie in state after 2:00 p.m. today at Davidson Funeral Home in Topeka.
